Joe has conducted and supervised complex civil, criminal and business investigations for over 20 years. As a necessary and critical component of this work, Joe has interviewed hundreds, if not thousands, of clients, parties and witnesses from all walks of life. He is particularly fond of this aspect of the work, and has developed a keen empathy for and understanding of those undergoing potentially traumatic situations.

During a relatively short career as a federal litigator, Joe had the privilege to work with and learn from a legendary San Francisco private investigator. With his mentor’s endorsement, Joe realized this work was a calling. He soon was invited to join a unique and successful East Bay investigative firm with a diverse and dynamic nationwide practice.

For 22 years, Joe investigated for law firms, big and small, in a variety of litigation matters – often high-stakes or high-profile – concerning subjects such as: labor and employment, Title IX, criminal, civil rights, family, class action, personal injury, environmental, healthcare, identity theft, celebrity affairs, contracts, and intellectual property. Joe’s practice also included internal and due diligence investigations for businesses, including Fortune 500 companies, who were addressing internal concerns or contemplating important business relationships or key hires. In addition, Joe has worked extensively with litigation teams engaged in jury work and post-conviction/appellate proceedings.

Joe has spoken at and participated in events at UC Berkeley School of Law, the CACJ Death Penalty Conference, UC Berkeley Moot Court Competition and other educational and professional venues.

Joe earned his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and his law degree from UC Law SF (formerly Hastings College of the Law). After his undergraduate studies, he worked for a small human rights organization in Geneva, Switzerland.  Joe is a mentor at Project Avary, a local non-profit organization, assisting children whose parent(s) are incarcerated. He has been active in his children’s schools and with their athletic teams.
