Katherine Guilford is a Senior Attorney Investigator and Adjudicator with Van Dermyden Makus Law Corporation. She has experience working with school districts, private organizations, and public institutions on a variety of complex matters.

Katherine is an experienced investigator who specializes in investigating claims of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other workplace misconduct.  Katherine takes a serious, compassionate, and holistic approach to conducting investigations, keeping her clients updated on critical issues every step of the way.  She is skilled in assessing complex allegations, including allegations against multiple Respondents, allegations against C-suite executives, and serious sexual assault allegations.  She has experience working in both the public and private employment sectors. 

Katherine’s expertise in investigations extends to critical post-investigative work.  She is well-versed in responding to investigative file subpoenas, as well as testifying about her work in post-investigative processes.  Katherine has experience testifying in arbitrations, civil service disciplinary hearings, and Title IX hearings. 

In addition to conducting workplace investigations, Katherine regularly conducts Title IX hearings as an adjudicator.  She is familiar with the Title IX framework and is trained in trauma-informed interviewing.  Katherine works diligently to ensure university students and faculty feel heard and respected during the hearing process, regardless of the ultimate outcome. 

Katherine is licensed to practice law in California.  She earned her Juris Doctor from the UC Davis Martin Luther King Jr. School of Law.  Katherine is an Association of Workplace Investigators certificate holder (AWI-CH)
