The VM Team Leads Three Sessions at the 2021 CALPELRA Conference

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly When Overseeing Independent Workplace Investigations (Thursday, November 18, 1:45-3:15pm)

Nikki Hall, Managing Partner, VM’s San Rafael office and Carl C. Larson, Senior Associate, present this session and cover best practices for investigation oversight.  They’ll be covering topics ranging from selecting an appropriate investigator to understanding the distinction between the roles of the independent investigator and employer representatives responsible for deciding remedial actions.

Hacks from Hacks: Practical Tips for Writing Investigation Reports (Thursday, November 18, 3:35-4:45pm)

Eli Makus, co-presents with Susan Wooley, Law Offices of Susan Woolley.  Writing investigation reports, far from summarizing witness accounts and evidence to preparing factual findings, requires a special kind of writing.  In this session, attendees learn key tips for better writing that are easy to implement.

CALPELRA Sparks (Friday, November 19 9:00-10:30am)

In the Public Eye: Managing the Spectrum of Interests During Investigations Involving Elected Officials.

Eli Makus is co-presenting this Sparks segment with Timothy L. Davis, Burk Williams & Sorensen.  They will explore the tensions, challenges, and strategies for managing and conducting investigations involving elected officials, as well as how privacy rights and disclosure of information under the Public Records Act create unique issues when conducting investigations of elected officials.
