Before joining Van Dermyden Makus, Katie practiced criminal defense for nine years.  She handled a wide variety of federal and state cases, including white collar fraud offenses.  As a result of her background, she is experienced in handling complex investigations and is adept at navigating sensitive situations. 

Katie earned her J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where she graduated cum laude.  While in law school, she competed on the National Mock Trial Team.  Prior to law school, Katie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Arizona.  She remained at the University of Arizona where she received her Master’s degree in Public Administration.  Katie is licensed to practice law in California and Colorado.
