Matt conducts workplace investigations and climate reviews for clients ranging from intimate workplaces to global leaders in the high-tech sector. He has particular experience in board-driven investigations and tailors his strategy to the specific needs of each case, investigating with empathy and efficiency. In addition to assisting with expert witness services, climate surveys, and due diligence and compliance matters, Matt is skilled in conducting investigations into allegations of misconduct, retaliation, harassment, discrimination, health and safety violations, financial impropriety, and trade secret and confidential information misappropriation.
Matt holds a faculty position at Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law, where he researches the law of trade secrets and confidential information and legal issues pertinent to modern workplaces, in particular workplace investigations. Previously, Matt worked for several years in Morrison & Foerster’s Silicon Valley office, in the employment and labor practice group. Following that, Matt worked at Van Dermyden Makus, handling sensitive and high-profile workplace investigations attracting national media attention on a regular basis. Matt has also provided pro bono legal services to various LGBTQ+ individuals and organizations throughout his legal career.
Matt brings a global perspective to his work, having studied and worked around the world, including in Germany, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Canada. Matt also engages with intersectional approaches to workplace issues and is a long-time champion of LGBTQ+ causes in pro bono legal services and continuing legal education training.
Matt is a licensed attorney in California, New York, and British Columbia. He is also pleased to provide legal services in French.
