Sue Ann Van Dermyden Authors One Year Later: Investigations in the Post-Weinstein Era for the 2018 American Employment Law Council Conference.
It was one year ago. The New York Times headline screamed, “Harvey Weinstein Paid Off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades.” America was riveted. Employment lawyers watched, and without grasping all that had happened, knew it was something big. And so it began.
Since April 2017, over 400 high-profile executives and employees have been accused of sexual harassment. Many of them have faced serious repercussions at work: 190 of them were fired or forced to resign, and 122 were placed on leave, suspended, or were the subject of an internal investigation. The accused include prominent executives and leaders in many fields: finance, media and entertainment, consumer goods and services, the legislature and judiciary, the arts, sports, and higher education.
