VM Recommends - April 2022

April’s VM Recommends brings us selections from Supervising Editor and Paralegal Mary Ann Demos (to find out more about Mary Ann, read her interview here).

Mary Ann is currently listening to the “Write Now” podcast, by Sarah Rhea Werner.  According to Mary Ann, “It’s technically about writing, but so much of what she says applies to life in general.  It’s a very personal podcast that often makes you feel like she’s read your mind and ends up addressing issues that we sometimes feel we’re alone in struggling with, but we’re not.  As a bonus, her voice is very soothing.”

Mary Ann is currently reading the fictional work, “Sunshine,” by Robin McKinley.  She feels Neil Gaiman best described this one: “Sunshine is a gripping, funny, page-turning, pretty much perfect work of magical literature that exists more or less at the unlikely crossroads of Chocolate, Interview with the Vampire, Misery, and the tale of Beauty and the Beast.”  Mary Ann says, “I’m so sad because the author didn’t write any more books in this one’s universe.”

For nonfiction, Mary Ann recommends “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff,” by Richard Carlson.  She says, “It’s the kind of book you can revisit throughout your life and find something that applies every time.”

Mary Ann is currently watching “The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window,” on Netflix.  She says, “It’s binge-watchable! And who can resist a title like that?”
